The National Certificate in Sports Turf Maintenance NQF Level 4 was developed by the Turf Grass Managers Association (TGMA, Gauteng) in conjunction with BC Sports Turf Skills Development, and is endorsed by the National body (TGMASA)
The qualification is aligned to international teaching standards in Sports Turf maintenance practices. It presents a challenge to individuals who wish to enter the Sports Turf maintenance profession, as well as offering a recognized qualification endorsed by the TGMASA to existing Sports Turf Technicians as well as Managers.
On completion of the qualification an individual will receive the TGMASA certificate. There is also an option, on enrolment, to receive a Level 4 SAQA (South African Qualification Authority) certificate issued through Agri-SETA.
The qualification can be targeted to a wide spectrum of Sports Turf disciplines that includes cricket, horseracing, field sports and bowling greens.
The qualification is available throughout South Africa through distance learning. The distance learning module is split into 3 divisions of instruction. The assessment process is based on written question and answer papers and assignment work.
The duration of the distance learning package is 12 months from the date of registration. However, an individual can complete the qualification in a shorter time depending on his/her commitment. Currently the cost of the full qualification is R20 500.00 excluding VAT. An individual can apply to register for individual modules of tuition that can build up to the full qualification.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)
Sports Turf Managers who have obtained a minimum of 3 years practical experience can apply for RPL in individual subjects. Upon registration the individual will have the opportunity to select either full tuition of a module, or to apply for RPL. The RPL process includes the submission of a detailed CV outlining industry experience and any certificates in specific subjects for verification purposes. A written evaluation in each subject will be conducted and an oral evaluation conducted, if required. The cost to participate in an RPL module is
R1 025.00 excluding VAT.
